Email Subscription Lists
Our web host, Business Net of Md (www.bnetmd.net) has made available email lists for our use. Email lists, sometimes called "reflectors" or "list servers" are internet email tools that allow someone to write a single email message and have it delivered to many people who share the same interest.
The lists we have available are for
| Club member chat (named "chatlist"). Send messages about anything you want to talk to other club members about. Some clubs generate one or two messages a week in their chat lists (that's us). Many have ten to thirty, and some are downright busy, with over a hundred messages. Some users may be "turned off" by high numbers of messages, so we have created the club news to keep everyone informed of club activities. Chatlist is limited to club members only. | |
| Club news (named "clubnews"). This is a kind of Express Electronic Modulator. It will contain official announcements, news and request for support for club activities. Under normal circumstances, it will not contain a lot of discussion about the announcements. This list is limited to club members only. | |
| Friends of BARC (named "baltarc-friends"). This list is primarily for announcements to non-members about BARC activities. It may be most useful to folks interested in the Hamboree. Material of a "press release" type will be placed here, such as warnings of upcoming deadlines for hamboree reservations. This list is public, anyone may join it. |
Users need to know three facts to make use of these lists. First, How to Subscribe, second, how to submit messages to be sent to the list and third, How to Unsubscribe.

| The "end" command is useful to keep any signature blocks from being interpreted as commands. | |
| To unsubscribe, follow the same procedure, but change the command from subscribe to unsubscribe. | |
| If you wish to subscribe or unsubscribe a secondary mail
address (for example, you are sending it from work, but wish to use your
ARRL email address, follow the list name with the email address. For
example, to subscribe the club ID, enter

| This will cause a slight delay (usually one evening), as a list administrator must then approve the request. This protects users from other people subscribing or removing them. | |
| Sending to the list is easy. Simply write your email and address it to " ". | |
| The "reply to" will be set to your email address. If you make a reply to a message that went to the list, it will be sent directly to whomever submitted the message to the list. If you use your mail software "reply all" command, your software will create a reply that will go directly to the author of the original message you are replying to, and a copy will also go to the list. You will get a copy back from the list of any message you send to it. |
